Burgi's replacement on the show will debut in February.

Richard Burgi has been fired from "Young and the Restless" for violating CBS' Covid-19 safety protocols.

After first revealing his departure over the weekend, the actor is now open about why he was fired from "Desperate Housewives."

"My wife had spoken about it being the show’s choice. This is true. He began his Instagram Story with the truth.

After traveling to the East Coast with his family, he was tested for Covid at Christmas. He stated that he had followed the most recent CDC guidelines and was inoculated for five days before returning to the studio and testing negative two more times before he showed up at work.

"But it wasn't within the show’s guidelines, which are a 10-day protocol. He added that he had inadvertently broken the show's Covid rules. "I felt terrible about it. I still do. Although it bothers me greatly, it is the truth. Whatever the decision of the show, I respect it. They are doing their best, just like we are.

Soap Opera Digest reports that Robert Newman was already tapped to play Ashland Locke in the future. His episodes will start airing next month.

Burgi expressed his gratitude for the man who will be replacing him. It's an incredible show. I have only good memories of it and my best wishes.

TooFab reached out to CBS for comments.
