26-year-old Dillon Atkinson was arrested in Fort Meyers, Florida last week after he was accused of having a "sexual relationship with" a 15 year-old girl he met through Fortnite.

After her parents found chat logs from her computer, police responded to her call. The adults at the house said that one of the messages indicated that the suspect was at the girl's home. This prompted one of them "outside" with his firearm, but no one was there.

The victim confessed to the online conversation and was arrested. She has been charged with one count each of lewd and lascivious behavior towards a victim aged between 12 and 16 years old, which is Florida's equivalent of statutory rape.

The girl confessed to her parents that she had "a sexual relationship" with a 26 year-old male. She first met him via Fortnite in July 2022. After having "sexual intercourse" with him several times during the two weeks before his arrest, she told her parents.

According to Law&Crime's police report, she told a Child's Advocacy Center case worker that she had met Atkinson three times. She stated that the suspect knew she was 15 years of age, and she also knew he was 26.

She said that he first picked her up at school before they had sex in the truck of his work truck. According to the affidavit, he took her back to his house the second time. However, the condom burst while they were having sex. According to police reports, the girl stated that Dillon took the victim to a Walgreens nearby and bought Plan B. He then gave Plan B to the victim as an extra precaution.

She claimed they had met for the third time "on their side of the house" days before the arrest.

Atkinson was arrested by police after he was made aware of his rights and allegedly continued to speak with a detective, without the assistance of an attorney.

"Dillon confirmed that he and the victim had met approximately five months before the incident on Fortnite. According to the report, they began a friendship which later became romantic." They began to communicate through Discord, an app that allows people to chat, text and make video calls.

"Dillon admitted that he knew the victim was underage, because she said she was sixteen years of age." The report said that Dillon informed the victim that the victim had told him it didn't matter what her age was. "Dillon also claimed that he did not know the legal age for consent. Dillon seemed to be very sorry for his actions."

In Florida, the age of consent is 18.

Atkinson remains in Lee County Jail. He is being held on $100,000 bond. His next court appearance will be January 30.

Epic Games, Fortnite's creator, stated in a statement to The Herald that they take safety concerns seriously and investigate them thoroughly, working with local law enforcement to take appropriate action.
