It is possible that the mystery surrounding a pregnant woman who disappeared 23 years ago with her infant girl may finally be solved.

Samantha Jean Hopper vanished on September 11, 1998 while she was en route to Little Rock, Arkansas, for a concert.

Courtney, her 22-month old daughter, was also there. She was leaving Courtney behind before she continued on with her gig. Samantha was nine months pregnant at the time.

The blue Ford Tempo she was wearing vanished completely...until Tuesday afternoon.

Around 12:30 PM, the Pope County Sheriff's Office was contacted by Adventures With Purpose. This non-profit group travels across the country to assist with cold cases.

They claimed they found a vehicle that matched the description underwater in the Illinois Bayou near Pleasant View Road, approximately one hour from Hopper's destination.

Investigators used a crane to lift the car from the water at 8ft depth. It was located about 25 yards away from the bank. The car contained human remains.

The Sheriff's office announced Wednesday that it would send the remains to Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock, Arkansas for DNA testing.

Sheriff Shane Jones stated that the Pope County Sheriff's Office wishes to offer its condolences and support to Courtney Holt and Samantha Hopper's families. He also expressed gratitude for being a part of closing this 23-year-old case.

Hopper's surviving child, Dezarae Carpenter posted a memorial fundraiser in which she thanked all those who helped her to find closure nearly a quarter century after the deaths of three family members.

She wrote, "After being gone for more than 23 years, we were able with the help of AWP & Chaos dive teams to find my mother, who was 9 months pregnant, and my 22-month old sister Courtney,"

"It has been a great relief to find her, and we want to give them a proper burial. It would be greatly appreciated if you could donate, or just pass this on. We are grateful.
