After refusing to release belongings, 'Scam Movers' lock customer in back of truck

After refusing to release belongings, 'Scam Movers' lock customer in back of truck

"Don't be fooled by moving companies!"

After her roommate was left behind in a truck, TikToker warned against scamming moving companies.

Sam, 28, who uses the app @followyourflow, captured the confrontation on her phone in front of their New Orleans home. She claims that the driver was eventually arrested and falsely imprisoned.

Sam explained the situation to her roommate in a story-time. She hired G&M Moving & Storage Corp. They gave Sam a detailed list of all they needed and received an estimate. They handed them a bill that was literally thousands of dollars more than their original quote when they loaded everything onto the truck.

They gave the company the benefit-of-the doubt and loaded all their stuff on the truck, so they agreed to the higher price and signed a contract. The drama did not end there.

One month later, the driver arrives in New Orleans, in a truck he rented, along with three local helpers that he had hired - Sam says they are about to be ripped off.

The driver told the girls that the bill was over $1,000 higher than the contract when they handed it to him. The driver added $700 for a "shuttletruck "..." to his bill, even though the truck they received was the same as the one that had been loaded.

He told them that they could dispute the bill but that he would charge $75 more for each 15-minute delay.

Sam claimed that they offered to pay $300 more -- the amount stipulated in the contract for the "shuttle truck". He told them that if they didn’t pay immediately, he would drive away with their belongings and block their number.

The girls were worried that they would lose all their belongings so they decided to load it themselves. Three times they called the police, but it took them 90 minutes to arrive. The driver threatened to arrest them for trespassing.

Sam claimed that the driver started "doing the male Karen" once she was onboard the truck. He was also the one who was hitting Sam and assaulting her. Sam was trying to lift boxes off of him and pinned her against the truck's wall.

The driver pushes his roommate into the truck while she tries and drags out a mattress. The video then shows the driver pushing the roommate back into the truck as she tries to drag out a mattress.

"Hey! "Hey! Sam shouts and runs to get her.

One of the hired assistants says "That's too much", while another shouts for help.

Sam recalls, "When I tried to open that latch -- it was he fighting me on the matter." "He wouldn't allow me to open that f-king latch."

She claimed that he did not relent when the helper "finally", stepped in. After that, he eventually sat down and allowed them unload. Sam said that the helpers soon realized they weren't getting what he promised.

Sam and her roommate gave the three burnt helpers the promised "and then more" to unload the truck, which they gladly accepted.

The entire ordeal took 3 hours. The driver denied that he had locked his roommate inside the truck when the police arrived. Sam then showed the officer the video and he became furious.

Sam stated that the driver was charged for felony false imprisonment. According to Sam, if the truck driver had moved one inch more, he could have been charged also with kidnapping.

She said, "This guy also knows where our house is so it's been really uncomfortable 48 hours."

Sam learned later that the "110 percent law" makes it illegal for moving firms to charge additional same-day fees at more than 10% above the agreed-upon price.

Sam ended her long story with a smile. "So um, just rent a U-Haul."

The company currently has an average rating of one star on Yelp. There are seven complaints to the Better Business Bureau. They are not accredited.

TooFab reached out to Sam, G&M Moving & Storage Corp and NOPD for comments.
