Alan Cumming Is Living His Bond Villain Fantasy on The Traitors (Exclusive)

Alan Cumming Is Living His Bond Villain Fantasy on The Traitors (Exclusive)

Although he didn't watch much reality TV before hosting the show he now knows "why people become addicted to crack cocaine."

Alan Cumming might have been a villain in "GoldenEye," however, he is a mustache-twirling Bond villain in the new Peacock reality show, "The Traitor." He wouldn't want it any other.

Tony-winning, Emmy-nominated actor would likely admit that he isn't the right person to host a competition -- which pits reality stars such as Brandi Glanville, Reza Fahan, and Kate Chastain against each other in a murder mystery with physical challenges to win a cash prize -- and told TooFab that he needed "a little bit more convincing" before he signed on.

Cumming, 57 years old, said he was not a big fan of reality TV before accepting to host the series. He explained that he felt like a hyper-admitted version of himself and that he had experience hosting events such as The Tony Awards.

"I didn’t know what it was." These things work in a similar way. Over the months, there are murmurs. 'They might give you this thing.' 'What? What? A reality TV show set in a castle? What?' He said, "What?

He continued, "But what I liked was it when I understood the process and when I spoke with producers, I was basically saying, 'You want to me to be a role,' almost like a James Bond villain host this show." "I had intended to bring my dog and pat my dog. But her papers weren't in time. Perhaps if we get another season, she will come.

It's great to be able to portray someone different and elevated from yourself. Although I am me, I don't actually live in that castle. It is not my castle. Spoiler alert! He continued. "Baddies have better lines. They are fun to play with, savage people. This was not a murderous act, I was just having fun with it.

Cumming had only seen "The Weakest Link" in 2001. He didn't have any experience or knowledge in reality TV before he decided that he would make a fake version of himself on "The Traitors". Cumming has only seen "The Bachelor" once, and that was "on planes and in hotels."

"I have never seen Survivor or any other reality show. He laughed and said that he had seen a whole season of "The Bachelor" during lockdown. It was a show that a friend of mine was watching. It was horrible! I watched it on streaming, and waited for the minutes to pass to see when it would be dropped on the streaming platform.

He said that he was "obsessed" by the workings of "The Traitors", and would wait each night for producers to tell him which cast member had been eliminated.

"I always asked Sam, the producer, to send me a text if I was ill. I could not wait. It was great to have inside information. He said that he loved knowing that he knew. However, he admitted that it was difficult for him to interview the cast because he knew that certain things would not happen for some of them.

Cumming is seen in an array of amazing capes, beautifully tailored tartan suits, and a selection of berets while laying out the game. This adds a unique fashion element to the show. Both his commentary and his looks are some of the highlights of the series.

Cumming said that clothes can be a great way to help you get into the right place. He credited stylist Sam Spector for his incredible ensembles. "Many of these suits are actually mine. He visited my house, and I had a lot tartan suits. But he then zhuzhed them with different things. My favorite thing about me was my cape.

"We have to make capes more modern and I bought the capes. He exclaimed, "I haven't worn them yet but I have plans to wear capes out in public."

Cumming thinks he would do on "The Traitors," even though viewers will be able to see who the winner is when the show airs in its entirety.

"I am a very good actor so I believe I would be able fake things well. He admitted that he is not good at making alliances. "Years, years and years ago, I was on Celebrity Weakest Link. I formed an alliance in the make-up room, and I was so happy and doing well that I realized my alliance was losing me. I thought, "What ?!'"?"

He concluded, "I'm a bit naive I suppose in certain ways." "I would be quite proud of the lying."

Peacock will have all 10 episodes of "The Traitors," starting January 12, 2012.
