"I've had to lose a lot friends because of this disease... There are so many reasons that it should have been me, and not them."
Alexander Ludwig celebrates 5 years sobriety.
The "Heels' star shared his story on Instagram and opened up about his journey with a new video.
Ludwig shared that "we're celebrating two different things." The first is my birthday and the second is the date I had my first date with the woman I love three years ago. I find this coincidence to be pretty amazing.
He continued, "It is pretty amazing to me that exactly five years ago, I was so confused, so afraid, and so lost about the direction my life would take." "All I knew is that I had a problem and an issue that needed to fixed."
Ludwig posted that he had just celebrated his birthday with his wife, mother, and family in Austin, Texas.
"I lost a lot friends to this illness, so many people did not make it, and I really don't know why. There are so many reasons that would have made me the one who survived and not them," said "The Hunger Games'" star. "I didn't make this video to congratulate myself, but to anyone who needs to see it."
If you are struggling, ask for help. There is light at the other end of the dark tunnel. It's amazing to me how my life has changed since I left prison until now.
Ludwig noted that "it's amazing what you can achieve when you commit to loving and growing yourself every day, as opposed to satisfying these impulses which we all have."
In February, the actor, 30, and his wife Lauren announced on Instagram that they were expecting a child. The new arrival is expected to arrive in the month of May. This exciting news follows three previous miscarriages for the couple.
Alexander and Lauren shared a photo at the time of them posing before a mirror. The "Hunger Games" actor was seen in the picture cradling Lauren's pregnant belly. Yam, the pair's dog, was also in the picture.
Lauren wrote: "There is hope for everyone who has had miscarriages in the past. There will be light at the end of your journey." You are not alone.
Alexander and Lauren decided to elope in late 2020 on a beautiful mountaintop near Wanship, Utah. This was just a few short months after they announced their engagement.
