Since 2017, Anderson Cooper and Cohen have hosted the celebrations, bringing back all the fun shots on TV.
CNN may have reduced its alcohol budget for New Year's Eve. But don't be surprised if Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen continue to drink throughout the night.
Variety reported Wednesday that Chris Licht, the new chairman and CEO of the company, expressed his opposition to on-camera drinking by other anchors and correspondents during NYE coverage. He said he felt it "damaged respectability" and "eroded credibility" for on-air talent.
Although Cohen and Cooper's alcohol is safe according to the outlet, anchors and correspondents who might have drunk alcoholic beverages on camera or off-camera in the past will need to stop the practice.
Cohen named Variety's headline, "CNN Plans To Sober Up Boozy NY's Eve Coverage," as his "Jackhole of the Day" last night on "Watch What Happens Live."
Anderson and I can still drink, as the article points out. He said, "So, we can all say that this to my sobriety," before showing a clip of last year's celebrations in which he shouted, "Sayonara! He blasted outgoing New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.
"I just wanted you to know that Anderson and I will party harder than ever before New Year's Eve! He then makes a promise. "Do you understand?"
Cooper hosted NYE on CNN since 2002. Cohen joined the telecast after Kathy Griffin was fired. Andy frequently plies Anderson shots throughout the night as Cooper's disgusted faces with the alcohol often go viral.
The two of them will still be allowed to drink, but the new mandate will mean that people like Alisyn Camerota and Don Lemon will probably have less fun in the future.
