After Travis Scott's performance in Houston, Texas on Friday night, at least 8 people died and many were injured, the Astroworld Festival issued a statement.
The Saturday tweet stated, "Our hearts are with Astroworld festival family tonight -- especially the ones we lost and their loved one," "We will continue to support local officials wherever we can." The festival will be cancelled [..] With this in mind, we thank our partners at Houston Police Department, Fire Department, and NRG Park.
The group also sought information from anyone on "a series of cardiac arrests" that occurred during the show, and thanked the public safety officials for their support.
Officials claim that the incident at NRG Park's outdoor music festival occurred after 50,000 people rushed towards Scott's stage at 9:45 pm. According to reports, panic set in as people at the front began to be crushed. Security personnel were overwhelmed and the situation escalated.
According to TMZ, 8 people were killed, one of them a 10-year-old boy. According to Houston Fire Chief Sam Pena, the causes of death are still being determined by the medical examiner. 300,000 people were also hurt.
CNN was also told by Pena that the ongoing investigation will examine "what caused, first, the issue of crowd surge and second, what prevented people being able to escape from that situation."
Texas Governor. Greg Abbott issued a statement saying that "What happened at Astroworld festival last night was tragic, our hearts are with the people who lost their lives, and those who were hurt in the terrifying crowd surge."
Kylie Jenner, who is due with rapper Travis Scott, was present at the event with their 3-year-old Stormi. She posted several clips of the event including one in which an ambulance tries to maneuver through the crowd towards stage.
Kendall Jenner, her sister, was also present at the event and uploaded clips to her IG Story. She also shared photos of the stage prior to the show with the caption "Will you be at the Mountain?"
