In a recent Instagram video, the R&B artist said, "I don't wanna be one of those guys who benefit from a transwoman in private, but not celebrate her publically."

B5 member Dustin Michael revealed he is dating transgender film director D. Smith.

The 35-year old R&B singer posted a video to Instagram on Tuesday in which he spoke about his relationship with D. Smith. He also said that he decided to open up after the tragic death last month of Koko da Doll, a transgender women who was fatally shot.

Koko appeared in D. Smith’s documentary "Kokomo City" which premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival and won two awards.

Dustin begins the video in black and white by saying, "I have felt different. I've felt like a loner. Like a black sheep.

He continued, "Recently I heard the terrible news about a transgender girl named Koko Da doll being murdered in Atlanta Georgia, just a few weeks ago." This particularly hit home for me because as Black men, I don't think we allow ourselves to openly love who we want to love without fear of being judged or shamed in public.

Dustin continued, "I think we are taught to suppress our feelings as children, and we never learn how to deal with these feelings."

The singer of "All I Do", continued, "As men, I find that we are frustrated by what we feel in our hideout and we take it out on other people." You know, emotional trauma can lead to violence, or even death. This is why I made this video.

Dustin revealed that he is dating D. Smith. He said, "I am in a beautiful relationship with someone that makes me happy." She's very sexy and talented. But most importantly, she has an amazing kind heart, which I love. She is my girlfriend. She is called D. Smith."

The musician said that, after Koko's passing, he wanted to "make it very clear" that D. Smith "has a place where she can feel free and safe" and that "she feels seen and loved with no conditions."

He continued by saying that he has known D. Smith "for over 10 years" and they have had a "very close connection" since "Day 1".

Dustin concluded by saying, "Love what you love."

D. Smith shared Dustin's video to her Instagram account with the caption "I am so proud of you." Since we've been friends for over 10 years, every moment spent with you has always been a positive experience. "So many men would only dream to be as brave as you."

She added, "Thanks for being an example of a person who loves another human." "I am so grateful for the heart, ambition and passion you have! "I love you."
