Gen Z may be trying to bring back the Y2K but this millennial is happy staying with midcentury. The 1960s' art-deco beauty looks are timeless and chic.

Mod makeup looks can also be deceivingly simple. These looks can be recreated by even the most experienced MUA. Banana liner is one of my favorite looks.

No Bananas Necessary

One quick glance at the MUA online community will reveal a variety of interpretations of "banana liner". We are not referring to actual bananas.

Instead, think "Twiggy." You may have seen this trend before but didn't know what name to give it. The curved eyeliner that runs below the brow bone enhances the eyes and gives you a doe-eyed look.

The trend's name refers the the banana-shaped gap between the eyeliner line and the lash line. You can still use actual fruits, as @cinthia_mua IG user has shown.

Modifying the Mod

Banana liner is easy to use and replicate (more later). You can make this makeup look as modern as you like, or as retro as you want.

MUA @beatsbylizzie, for example, uses banana liner in many of her new-age glam looks. Use a downward-sloped liner to keep it modern. You can make it modern by adding a cat-eye flick.

You shouldn't be afraid of trying new colors. @makeupstoris combines Art Nouveau, mod 1960s and modern-day with this combination of aqua blue and lime.

Make it Yours

Let's get to the fun part, which is actually trying it yourself. Banana liner can be applied with liquid, gel or pencil.

For a soft look, use eyeshadow and an angled brush. Inglot's Duraline turns any powder product into liquid. You can use as many shades of eyeshadow as you like with your banana liner.

You can add as many or as few details as you like, and you'll feel as if you just stepped out of 1961. You now have a reason to get those go-go boots.
