Celebs Pay Tribute to Steve Harwell, Former Smash Mouth Lead Singer Dead at 56

Guy Fieri wrote, "Today is a very sad day." Chris Kirkpatrick, from NSYNC, said, "You are an amazing person and you will be missed."

Celebrities and fans mourn the death of Smash Mouth founder Steve Harwell who died on Monday, aged 56.

TMZ reports that Harwell, who was the lead vocalist of Smash Mouth from 2000 until 2021, died at his Boise home on Monday due to liver failure. This followed health problems resulting from alcohol abuse. The sad news was announced just a day after TMZ revealed that Harwell had been receiving hospice care in this home, and that he was only given a few days to live.

After Harwell's death, Smash Mouth stars and fans paid tribute to him on social media.

The official Smash Mouth X account (formerly Twitter), posted a message, writing "Steve Harwell is a true American Original." A character that was larger than life, who shot into the air like a Roman Candle. Steve will always be remembered for his relentless focus and passion to achieve the heights in pop stardom. Rest easy knowing that you hit the target and aimed at the stars. "Relax."

Both NSYNC members Chris Kirkpatrick Joey Fatone and Joey Fatone shared tributes on Instagram.

Rest easy, my friend. I am truly sorry for your difficult battle. Kirkpatrick wrote: "You were an amazing person and will be missed deeply." Kirkpatrick posted a picture of Harwell with the note.

Fatone shared a throwback photo of him and Harwell. "We had a lot of fun! Sad that all things must end, and sometimes too soon because things are beyond repair. But let's face it: It is never too late. Hope people who are struggling with addiction get the help they need. Get the help they need. It's a crazy, chaotic world that we live in.. thinking and praying for everyone.. RIP Steve!

Guy Fieri also shared a photo of Harwell and himself on Instagram to mourn his passing.

"To my old brutha Steve. RIP. "Today is a sad, sad day. I will miss my dear friend," he captioned his post.

Harwell, Kevin Coleman, Paul De Lisle and Greg Camp founded Smash Mouth in 1994. The rock group, which rose to prominence with its 1999 album Astro Lounge -is known for hits like "All Star," "Then The Morning comes," and a Cover of The Monkees' I'm a Believer" that was featured on the Shreksoundtrack.

Harwell announced that he would be retiring in 2021 due to his numerous health problems.
