Dr. Mehmet Oz is the latest celebrity to complain about being "canceled" in the media. But what's the truth? Although the TV star just announced his candidacy for a US Senate seat, he is already swinging against media.

"They don't want to call me doctor anymore"

In a Twitter video, Oz holds up The Philadelphia Inquirer and tells viewers that the paper is trying to "cancel him." "Last week The Philadelphia Inquirer featured me on their frontpage as 'Dr. He says, "Oz." "This morning, they just announced, there is no doctor anymore, even though I am a practicing physician. I am taking care of patients. I have performed thousands of heart surgeries. They won't call me doctor anymore. "I won't be cancelled."

Are Oz's plans to be "canceled"? All indications are not so. In fact, the Inquirer stated that removing "Dr." from Oz's name is just a matter of newspaper policy. The Inquirer's headline, photo caption and first sentence all referenced Dr. Oz the day after he announced his candidacy. The paper explained.

"This is against the paper's style guidelines, which state: 'Do NOT use Dr. on the first reference for anyone with a title, regardless of whether they are a physician or have a doctorate from a nonmedical area to avoid complaints about unequal treatment from people who worked hard to attain doctorates in nonmedical areas.' This only mentions two exceptions: obituaries, and the Rev. It continued, "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr."

The paper published a statement that Val Arkoosh, a fellow Senate candidate, is also a doctor. However, they didn't refer him to as "Dr. Arkoosh" in headlines. The statement stated that the Inquirer decided to refer to all candidates the same way. "This means that Oz might be referred to as a celebrity physician, but 'Dr. Oz's mentions will be restricted to his TV show...which is currently off-air in Philly."

Oz's Campaign for Senator

Many are asking if Oz's TV career will hurt him in this race. Oz has promoted many unproven weight-loss and anti-aging products and was called before Congress in 2014 in order to testify about his involvement in the scam-medicine industry.

A Senate panel on science and health heard his testimony. He stated that he believes in the topics he discussed in the program. They are fascinating to me. They are often not scientifically sound enough to be presented as facts.

Retired Sen. Pat Toomey (R.Pa.), vacated the seat Oz is running for and he is facing stiff competition. Oz is one of 12 Democrat candidates. 11 Republicans are also running. This race will play a significant role in the fight for control of Senate by the two parties.
