Drew said that she was openly in a relationship with Luke. Kate, however, stated that she had "been there too" with Wilson.
Drew Barrymore and Kate Hudson went on a journey down memory lane for Thursday's episode "The Drew Barrymore show."
The actresses shared their memories of how they first met, and how they dated Wilson brothers Owen and Luke Wilson back in 2000.
Barrymore recalled that Hudson was young and wild when they first met.
Hudson agreed to the agreement and said that they had met at "Chez Jays in Santa Monica with Luke Wilson". Kate added that Luke and Kate were filming "Alex andEmma" in 2003.
Barrymore and Luke met in 1998 on "Best Men and Home Fries", and they had been dating for two years.
Drew referred to Luke by saying, "I was dating him." "But I believe he was also seeing other people. We were young and it was open to each other.
Barrymore described their two-year marriage as "low stakes", and carefree considering the wild nature they shared at the time. We are young and having fun. We're just having fun, playing, acting and hanging out. It's not serious, so it was fun. It was a great time.
Kate also said that she "been there too with a Wilson" -- appearing to confirm her relationship with Owen, whom she costarred in "You, Me and Dupree" (2006).
Hudson was later asked by the 46-year old host what it was like growing up with famed parents Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.
"She's Goldie Hawn. She is an icon. What was it like as a child with your mother? Drew was curious.
Kate was open and honest and said that growing up in Hawn's household was "very fascinating" and that it was a rollercoaster ride.
My mom is like a tornado, she's a rollercoaster. She's like a tornado that creates rainbows and doesn't destroy anything. She laughed. "And you're like, ‘Where was she?’ "And you're like, Where was she?' People would focus on whether we were alone or not. Mom is so loving, she wants to give everyone the time."
Kate stated that although her mother was open to fan interactions, her stepfather took a different approach when it came to family time.
Kurt is the exact opposite. Kurt says, "No thanks. I'm with the kids. That made me feel so good. So when they were together, that was their rule. We are with our children and we are not going into signing autographs or taking photos," she said.
"They were very focused. This was a good thing when we were young and didn't get it. It made us feel really good, because they knew that their intention was to be there with us. My mom's feelings about this matter a lot. It all depends on the direction she feels.
Hudson also spoke out about her career as an actress, and how she felt at one time "pigeon-holed" in the romcom movie genre.
"I love [romcoms] so much, but I have this problem with the romcom though which was always like, I personally think that the best ones are so grounded and rooted but when you get pigeonholed or people want to put you in the system, it's like, "Okay, you're going to do this, then you do it."
The 42-year old spoke out about feeling like she wasn't allowed enough creativity to try new things during filming. "They just want it to kind of dumb it all and make it too bright, perfect, and put the bows in it," she said.
She continued, "Honestly, I discovered that I would always push the envelope, and they were like, ‘No, we aren’t going to do a rating-R romcom.’" "We can have fun with ourselves. We can laugh at ourselves. That's the romcom I'm interested in making.
