I just felt it. I knew we were a match. "I knew it was going to happen," said the actress who seemed to put an end to any rumors about a possible rivalry with Selena.
Francia Raciareflectes on her decision to give one of her kidneys Selena Gomez six years after they underwent the transplantation due to the latter’s complications with lupus.
The 35-year old actress, who appeared on Dear Media’s Good Guys Podcast , recalled the surgery, and also responded to online comments regarding her kidney donation, as well as her friendship with Gomez after the 2017 operation.
Raisa said, "I never imagined my name in the media like this." She told Good Guys hosts Ben Soffer, and her How I Met Your Father star, Josh Peck. "I thought of it as an actor, but never did I imagine this."
"Now, I realize that both she and I went public years ago with our situation, but we were forced to do so because the media got hold of it and we wanted to share it." She continued before admitting she was unprepared and surprised by situations like "what's been going on recently," which seemed to be a reference to past drama involving herself and Selena.
The How I Met Your Father actress said that she "cannot read" social media comments as she "doesn’t do well" when it comes to them. She also noted that "people are so cruel" and she sometimes has to "disappear".
Francia said: "Someone told me, 'Oh you're looking for attention, because your career isn't going well.'" "I was like, 'Is this a flop'?"
She appeared to make fun of rumors that she had bad blood with Gomez. Raisa, picking up a jar salsa for her new venture, said "No beef. Just salsa."
The secret life of the American teenager alum then went on to talk about donating her kidneys to Selena. She stressed that she was not pressured into it.
I've already said it. It was just a feeling in my heart. I knew we were a good match. "I knew it would happen," she said. No one forced me to act. "I've been blessed ever since I did it out of genuine kindness."
Francia described a feeling of "crazy calm" before the transplant. She said that "the moment" she learned she was a Selena match, she knew she would have to proceed with the procedure.
Raisa, meanwhile, said that she auditioned "two weeks" following the surgery for an acting role. She was cast in the part, noting that it felt like a "sign" from God that everything would be okay.
Her interview comes less that a week after Gomez shared a birthday tribute for her friend following rumors about a rift.
The singer captioned the three photos she took of Raisa with "Happy Birthday to this special person." No matter where the road takes us, I will always love you. @franciaraisa."
In November, Francia told Rolling Stone her "only industry friend" was Taylor Swift.
E! Raisa commented on an Instagram post "interesting", before deleting it. At the time, fans also noted that Raisa was not following Gomez's Instagram account.
Selena responded to the critics later by commenting on the TikTok video that had deconstructed the drama, and pointed out the fact that Francia was not mentioned in Gomez’s My Mind & I documentary.
She commented, "Sorry, I didn't include everyone I know."
TMZ reports that Raisa was also asked in Los Angeles in May about her friendship with Gomez. She continually changed the topic and deflected questions.
After Gomez's sweet Instagram post dedicated to Raisa for her birthday and Francia’s comments on Good Guys about Selena, perhaps the two have made up.
