Wildfires have been ravaging the Hawaiian island Maui for a few months now, leaving thousands of people without homes and with a death count that is over 100. The flames spread quickly and destroyed more than 2,000 acres of land. Over 1,000 structures in Lahaina also were destroyed. The "largest Natural Disaster" of recent Hawai'i history has been reached.
Celebrities from Hawai’i, whether they were born there or now live there, feel an unimaginable amount of sadness for their 'ohana who have been directly affected by the fires. They are sending donations and encouraging others to do the same to help their homeland in this time of need. These stars will help rebuild Lahaina over the years.
What did these Hawaiian celebrities have to say?
1. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
Dwayne Johnson grew up in Honolulu and maintains a strong connection with the island. Dwayne Johnson said that he felt "completely heartbroken for the people of Maui" after the devastating wildfires. He was working with local organizations to provide any assistance he could.
"I am heartbroken and I'm sure that you all are, too. "Everything that I have seen unfold over the past two days, and everything that continues hour-by-24-hour-minute-by minute, is heartbreaking," said he in a video.
In the caption he wrote, "Our local families, our Ohana, and our Aiga, remain strong through this devastating time." Our DNA is resilience and resolve. Our blood is infused with the blood of our ancestors. We are who we say we are. What we do. You are loved. "Stay strong."
2. Bette Midler
Bette Midler was raised in Honolulu and attended the University of Hawai'i, Manoa. Bette Midler sent her condolences after the Maui wildfires and asked her fans to acknowledge the impact of climate change on Hawai'i. She also encouraged other to donate to Hawai'i Community Foundation's Maui Strong Fund.

Former President George H.W. Bush encouraged viewers to do more than just send "thoughts" and prayers. He asked those who could financially support organizations such as the Hawai'i Community Foundation's Maui Strong Fund or Maui Rapid Response.
4. Jason Momoa
Jason Momoa is a Hawaiian native who was born in Honolulu. He didn't grow up there, but returned to the island as a teenager and studied at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. He also lived on the island while appearing on Baywatch Hawaii. Jason Momoa has been vocal in his support of those who have been affected by the Maui wildfires. He has shared posts from the non-profit'Aina Momona.
"My heart goes to those who have been affected by the devastating fires on the Island of Maui. We come together in times of crisis as a 'Ohana - a family - to support and help each other. In a statement, he told People that the destruction caused by fires was heartbreaking. However, our community's strength and resilience will shine through.
He added, "I urge all to be safe and listen to the local authorities." We must all work together to stop the spread of fires, and to support those who are on the frontlines and working to protect our homes.
5. Auli'i Cravalho
Auli'i, a native of Kohala in Hawaii, used her social media to collect resources and donations for the victims of Maui wildfires. Auli'i has not only raised money for the victims of the Maui wildfires, but also created a list with items needed by Maui residents and ways you can help.
"I feel almost in tears when I speak about this. To say that we were not prepared for this natural disaster, after all the other disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis, is an understatement. Do not travel to Hawaii unless you are donating aid. The federal government has declared this a DISASTER. Your vacation can wait. 6. Jack Johnson
Jack Johnson, a musician from Oahu who was raised on the North Shore of Oahu and lives on a farm there to this day, is a native Oahuan. Jack Johnson and his Johnson Ohana Foundation donate to a number of organizations in the wake the Maui Wildfires. These include the Hawai'i Community Foundation's Maui Strong Fund, and the Maui Food Bank. Jack performed at a fundraising concert in his own backyard.
He posted on Instagram, "Maui could really use our love and support at this time." "We're aware that it will be a long journey ahead, and we're working hard to communicate with the community to maintain support." To all our Maui family and friends, we love you.
7. Carlos & Alexa Penavega
Alexa and Carlos Penavega did not grow up in Hawaii, but now it is where they are raising their family. The couple, their three children and themselves were not on Maui at the time of the disaster but "so many family and friends have lost their home" and "family and friends haven't made it." The couple haven't made it home yet, and they don't know whether their house has survived.

9. Mick Fleetwood
Mick Fleetwood, a Maui resident for 25 years, owned Fleetwood's restaurant on Front St. Lahaina which unfortunately was destroyed by the wildfires. Mick Fleetwood says that while he and his family were safe, his main concern was for the employees of his restaurant and community.
"MAUl, and the Lahaina Community have been my home since several decades. It is a moment of great tragedy for MAUl, and many people are experiencing unimaginable losses. "Fleetwoods, on Front Street, has been destroyed and although we are devastated by this loss, our first priority is to ensure the safety of all our team members and staff," he posted on Instagram. "On behalf myself and my entire family, I send my deepest thoughts and prayers to the people of MAUI. We will continue to support the community, and those who have been affected by the disaster for many years.
