She said that she had never spoken to him before, but her father sent a "message" when the man (whom she called "Voldemort") showed up at the set.
She says that even when Hilarie Burt tried putting a wall between herself and one of her managers at One Tree Hill he found a way to force the two to interact.
Burton revealed on the latest episode of her Drama Queens Podcast with co-stars Sophia Bush, and Bethany Joy Lenz that their boss wrote him into the Season 5 Episode "Echos, Silence, Patience & Grace" while they were filming.
Burton claimed that she did not refer to the man by name, but simply called him "Voldemort," the Harry Potter villain. She said "he didn't speak to me in real life and he wrote him into the episode where I hugged him."
Bush exclaimed, "That's so psychotic!" Can you imagine Shonda Rhimes, Aaron Sorkin or themselves starring on their own show?
Burton said, "It was creepy." She pointed out that even though she had her father and her brother with her on the set, as well as the father of the boyfriend she was dating at the time, directing the episode, "it still wasn't enough" so she invited her father to come visit her during filming. She said that her father sat in front of the monitor all day. It was strange because he wasn't friendly.
Burton said that she would "beeline it" to the monitor, where her father was sitting in between takes. She felt safer with him by her side. She continued, "Because I can't be touched, you can’t drag me into a conversation side by side, you cannot do that if I am just making jokes and shooting the s--- with my dad."
The actress said that "Voldemort", who was a bullwhip user, would visit the production office at lunchtime, which overlooked the parking lot. During break, she said her father and the sound mixer of the show -- both bullwhip enthusiasts -- "proceeded to go out in parking and pull bullwhips out and start doing these tricks and breaking them real loud."
She said, "It was the redneckest, most carny thing that you could do, but it was like a warning, like, Hey, don't." What a sour day at the office. "What a s----day!" She continued by saying that, while her father's presence in the room "didn't necessarily resolve anything" over the long term, it worked for the day.
She said that viewers can see her discomfort when they watch the episode again, saying, "You can tell from my body language, I'm always pointing away, I never look directly at him."
The episode that they discussed involved Burton only interacting with Max, the owner of a record store, played by Mark Schwahn, creator of the series. The women on the podcast all commented how strange it was that Burton's character vented to "Max" in this episode. This was Schwahn’s second appearance before the camera.
After the show ended, Schwahn was fired from his position at The Royals, E! When the allegations were made, Schwahn never publicly addressed them.
