Janelle reconsiders the future of her relationship with Kody, after spending the holidays without him. She accuses him of "getting more and more angry" over his issues with children.
Kody is heading in two completely different directions with Janelle Brown -- and she doesn't even know if she wants to reconcile.
The Sunday night premiere of sister wives revealed the polygamists to be more divided than ever, after accusations that Kody favours his wife Robyn over the other members of the family.
Kody married Meri, his first wife in 1990. Janelle then joined the family in 1993 through a spiritual union. Christine joined the family spiritually in 1994. Robyn followed suit in 2010. Kody divorced Meri in order to marry Robyn legally in 2014. Christine, the oldest of 18 children, was the first one to "separate" in 2021. He and Janelle followed suit sometime in 2022. Meri and Kody announced their separation in January, announcing that they "permanently (terminated] [our marriage relationship].
The episode this week took place around Thanksgiving 2022. Both Janelle and Christine spent the holiday with their children, instead of celebrating it together with Kody, Robyn, and Meri. Janelle, who had "mixed feelings" about being away from everyone else but was still happy to be with her family for the holiday, told viewers that she had an "excellent" time despite tensions between Kody's kids and his wife.
How a holiday text chain between Sister Wives kids'spiraled into a nasty family feud
"I delivered the facts, I told the children what their father was asking of them to come to Thanksgiving," she confessed in a confessional. She added that Kody needed to "do something" to fix his strained relationship between him and his children. "He has to act." He wants to be patriarch.
Kody added, "We're not family, we act like animals", before Robyn explained how her children were allegedly affected by this drama.
"My older children... they experienced feelings of rejection or heartbreak." Why don't they seem to care? She claimed. They've experienced that pain before. Just reminding them that it's not personal and apologizing for their innocence in this is all you need to do.
Christine came to Janelle's apartment and offered her support.
She continued, "I'm just taking it day-by-day," before going into more detail about her issues and those of her children with the patriarch. "Kody was always a very engaged father. It's something I really admired about him. The relationships between my sons and me were really damaged when Covid happened. I believe that this opened the door to old complaints coming up again.
"I feel stuck in the middle." She explained that her boys felt there was a clear favoritism in the time and effort spent by different households.
Kody's confessional stated that he "always" wanted relationships with his kids, but added that "these relationships go both ways as the children get older." He continued to say that, while he had not asked his sons to "apologise" for their conduct during their Covid disputes, he wanted to "communicate and talk" with them to "clear up the air about all these rumors that are going on in this household." It appears that this has not yet happened.
Janelle expressed her "unbelief" that they would be able to resolve the issue, but made it clear that she does not believe Kody was the only person at fault. She added: "I don’t think it’s one-sided, there’s no bad guy in this situation." "I think maybe we missed something when we were blended families.
Janelle revealed in a confessional that it is difficult to integrate so many family members. She said that her children "remembered a lot" of hurts when other people were thrown into the mix. She then said, "I know that they tried to integrate everyone but there may have been cracks." She said that she is not sure how much work she wants to do at this time, and if it even makes sense.
Do we continue to work for this? My kids were like, "What?" He seemed so insistent that the kids should respect him. Everyone is angry," said Janelle. There are a lot moving parts and I am worried that they won't do the job because everyone is so enraged, Kody is angry about this. He is getting more and more angry, sharper and harsher. I am seeing him as being more and black and white about the kids' need to respect me.
It's becoming really complex. She added, "We're neither getting divorced nor walking away. I have no idea what to do."
"I won't sit here and try putting together this relationship after the children leave when there isn't a lot of commonality," she continued referring to her own broken relationship with Kody. "I don’t know who this man is anymore. "I just don't think it's worth the effort."
She called both Kody, and Robyn out for what she perceived as finding new ways to distance the rest of her family after using Covid during the pandemic as an excuse.
"Now that Robyn and Kody have all had Covid, and there is no longer any fear of separation because of the illness, we can't come together until this issue has been resolved. She said, "Now that's their drum, it is the new excuse to keep everyone apart." "It is interesting, because my life has a lot of unrest, but my children and Christine seem to be stable, normal. It's the way it was always."
She concluded, "With Kody at war with my children and Kody & I at war with our relationship, I had a chance to reflect on my needs in my relationship with Kody going forward." "Kody, I wasn't really in a good place when we entered this situation. I don't even know where Kody and me are going to be going forward." Can it be saved? "I have no idea."
