In a recent profile, Simpson responds to speculation that she secretly dated Mark Wahlberg after Nick Lachey's divorce, and TikTokers who now see her ex as "the villain" of Newlyweds.
Jessica Simpson has responded to recent social media chatter around her in a new interview.
Speaking with Bustle for a new cover story, the 42-year-old singer-turned-businesswoman was asked about some of the online theories and speculation to pop up about her over the past year or so, starting with allegations she's "too skinny" or taking the weight loss drug Ozempic after a Pottery Barn Kids ad last November sparked concern.
"Oh Lord. Ozempic is not what she meant. "It's willpower. Do people want me drinking again? It's because I was heavier then. They want me to have another baby. My body can't do it."
She said that her fluctuating weight has been "lucky" for her brand, her understanding of women who buy her products, and her psyche.
A rumor circulated on the internet in early this year that linked her with Mark Wahlberg. This was after Simpson published an Amazon Original Stories video about a secret relationship she had with a "massive film star" after her split from Nick Lachey.
She did not name names and said that the two never had sex. She described the man as a religious person with a girlfriend. The two separated after an encounter that left her "feeling like a call girl," and realizing he "hide me from his chick."
Bustle asked Simpson whether she had heard from Wahlberg after posting her story. She was clearly convinced that it was also about him. This is what she reportedly said:
"She laughs -- like a deafening, throw-back-your-head-and-cackle laugh -- before saying she would absolutely not confirm the subject's identity. She says, "There are a lot Catholics around."
Simpson also talked about her time with Lachey in Newlyweds. The MTV reality series documents the couple's marriage and marital woes.
The show Newlyweds made me appear vulnerable, and this gave me the power to control people. In retrospect, she stated that her power was in her vulnerability.
In 2002, MTV requested a documentary about newlyweds. Nick was reluctant, but I said, "Sure." In a video, she said: "I'll never forget the cameras that came into our home."
"What you saw on Newlyweds is the novelty of a new TV genre that was going to be born. I felt like people had a peek at my heart and who am I. Our reality television was so raw and real to the point that it made us feel embarrassed. "All you need is a camera in front of you, to see how long your marriage lasts."
She was also asked to comment on a clip that went viral recently on TikTok in which Lachey called Simpson a "spoiled brat." She reportedly shrugged when the reporter pointed out that new viewers view Nick as a "villain." Later, she said that Nick's positive image from the past was re-evaluated by the public.
After Lachey, Simpson dated John Mayer, and Tony Romo before she began dating Eric Johnson, her husband-to-be, in 2010. After welcoming daughters Maxwell and Ace, the couple married in 2014. Birdie was born in 2019 and they are also parents of Maxwell, Ace, and Birdie.
