Jim Bob Duggar runs for Senate in Arkansas. But, there is a huge shadow over his potential senate seat. His son was accused of some extremely grave crimes. Josh Duggar has been accused of possessing child pornography. Jim Bob has been silent on the matter, with some quotes indicating he was aware of the allegations and others suggesting he didn't know about his son's activities.

Sins of the Son
Josh Duggar's Arkansas trial officially begins Wednesday. The allegations against Josh are very broad. Josh Duggar, 33 years old, is being charged with downloading and possessing child pornography. This case is unique because Josh, the oldest child of Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar was featured on TLC's 19 kids and Counting. After Josh's allegations of sexual abuse of his sisters, the show was canceled. He was not charged with those allegations.
Jim Bob testified Monday that his son came to him in 2002 to share some of his misdeeds. He said under oath: "He had touched some girls when they were asleep, like on the breasts like over their clothes. They didn't get up."
Although it seems quite damning, Jim Bob said that he could not recall the details of the conversation. He also quickly retracted his statement, adding that "he didn't use that wording - I don’t recall exactly how he said it." It's not clear how he said it.
Retrograde Amnesia
Jim Bob wanted to also praise his son and express gratitude that he came forward and spoke to them rather than "catching him in action." Jim Bob replied, "Yes. It was really like Josh. We were grateful that he came to tell us about what had happened. Although we didn't see him do anything, it was an important step. He had crossed some boundaries and he was right at the age of curiosity, which is when your hormones kick in, at 14 years of age.
Surreally, the whole thing unfolds with parents praising their child's achievement for something they would find shocking. This is an odd thing to be on the fence over, and it has made many question Jim Bob's desire for the senate. It will likely have a significant impact on how that will turn out. All this means that Jim Bob won't be appearing at the trial on behalf of his son, while Josh's siblings will be.
Josh could face twenty years imprisonment and a $250,000 penalty for each count if he is found guilty. It is impossible to change this even with a strong family support and a well-known last name. We will see how it all plays out in the future.
