John Stamos was famous for his role in "General Hospital" at the time. He says that he could not stand the five-year old Stephanie Tanner, played by Jodie Sweetin. Stamos called his agent and told him to "get the f--- out of this show."

He told Sean Evans, "It was described to me as Bosom Buddies '..., with a couple kids in the back." This happened between hot wings. "We did a reading of it and I was the main character."

He was at that time the most famous actor in the cast, having won the Daytime Emmy Award just a few months prior for his role on "General Hospital." He imagined the focus being on the three males living together and helping to raise the girls. He didn't anticipate the children themselves.

He wondered why they went through such a long process to cast kids who would "be in the background." This is not what actually happened once the show was broadcast.

"We sat down and started reading. Jodie sweetin who plays Stephanie reads her lines and everyone is dying to laugh. "I mean screaming," he remembered. I was wondering, "What is happening?"
