The actress and model Julia Fox claims she has never been invited to attend the Met Gala. She calls for "gatekeeper Anna Wintour" to step down, and criticizes this year's Met Gala for honoring controversial designer Karl Lagerfeld.
Julia Fox, who is not one to mince words, chose a few of her favorites to discuss the Met Gala and its organizer Anna Wintour, as well as the controversial theme chosen to honor designer Karl Lagerfeld for this year's celebration.
She acknowledged that she has never received an invite, but insisted that, even if one were sent, she wouldn't go, because she didn't want support such a show of wealth and priviledge.
Fox, who has become somewhat of a style icon in recent years for her self-made and unique styles, told The Daily Mail that "if it were about fashion, I would be there." "It is about politics, privileges, your parents and how much you earn."
She took aim at Anna Wintour who has been in charge of the event since 1995 and said it was time to retire the 73 year old Vogue editor. Fox said, "She won't give up." How long will she continue to go?
She said, in fact, that the Met Gala "never spoke to me," adding, "I mean look at who's running it."
Fox criticizes Wintour for turning Vogue and the Met Gala into "more commerce than art".
She explained that there was a disconnect. "American Vogue" is not my favourite: It needs to be fun, fresh and full of new energy. Fox has proposed that the Met Gala should not feature big celebrities or "nepobabies" but instead designers and artists.
She explained that "the Met Gala has an air of gatekeepers." "I do not rank people in my mind based on their parents or how much they earn: the Met Gala is not exclusive, it is exclusionary."
Fox, in an attempt to dissuade those who might criticize her for being upset that she was not invited, said: "I love the Met, but I want more to be done to help other designers and people who don't get the same privilege, so they can see and hear them."
Fox revealed that she was working on a "counter-gala" that would support fashion designers, and "help fund single mothers and disadvantaged people."
She had a message to anyone who was watching the event, and felt any kind of way towards the celebrities or the entire evening. She said, "I want people to not aspire towards these people." "Aspire to being yourself. "There's a child out there who will look at me without being ashamed. Fashion and art are about vision."
Fox did not hold back in expressing her displeasure with the event as a whole, but she took particular aim at the theme of this year, which was an homage to the late designer Karl Logerfeld.
Lagerfeld, who died at the age of 85 in 2019, was criticized for his controversial beliefs and comments, such as those concerning #MeToo, sexual assaults, migrants, and LGBTQ rights. He was also accused of Islamaphobia and, most importantly, fatphobia.
Fox criticized the Met Gala's decision to honor someone who "upheld imperialism and supremacy ideals." She also criticized the lack of diversity at this year's Met Gala, stating that "there were no trans people or trans people of any color there."
Fox's comments follow Jameela Jamil's criticism of this year's Met Gala and its Lagerfeld theme in a sit-down "The View" interview.
She posted on Instagram Tuesday that "Last Night Hollywood and Fashion said the quiet part loudly when many famous feminists chose the highest level to celebrate a man who had been so publicly cruel to woman, fat people, immigrants, and sexual assault survivors."
She continued, "And all women's magazines, and online spectators, chose to gleefully disregard it." Your appetite for finding someone's tweets when they were 12 years old has disappeared.
She added that "nobody has perfect values, least of which is me. But Jesus Christ, we had an entire year to correct this course and not give the highest award possible to a bigot." "And now everyone decided we can separate art from artist whenever it *convenient*."
She concluded her message by saying: "It is one rule for you and another for everyone else." We relinquished the right to be taken seriously in any important matter last night.
She explained in her caption that her post was not really about "cancel-culture" or Lagerfeld, but rather meant to highlight how "selective cancellation culture is within liberal political, in the most blatant manner so far."
It's to show why people don’t trust liberals. She continued, "Due to slippery tactics and double-standards like this." It's not only Hollywood, but the public on the internet also participated in the erasure and distorted the truth of last night. Last night they replaced their pitchforks for spoons to eat up that crap.
She concluded her post by warning that if we continue on this path, we will lose the next elections.
