Kate Middleton has become the latest royal to make headlines. She will host a Christmas broadcast for ITV, which is ignoring the BBC. This Christmas carol program celebrates the efforts of individuals and organizations that "stepped up to help their communities during the pandemic."
BBC Doc Responsible for Snub
According to reports, the BBC was going to air the event that was scheduled to take place at Westminster Abbey. It was reportedly given to ITV by the BBC after controversy erupted over the broadcast of a documentary on Prince William and Prince Harry and their relationship with media.
BBC's The Princes and The Press caused outrage among the royal family. It was so disturbing that royal households even made public comments about it. The film was primarily about Harry and Meghan Markle's separation from the royal family. It is sometimes called "Megxit" by some.
According to Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and Kensington Palace in a statement to the BBC that was shown at the end the documentary, "A free, responsible, and open press is vital to a healthy democracy." It is frustrating when they are given credibility by anyone, even the BBC, because too often, it is exaggerated and unfounded claims made from unnamed sources.
The family was also furious that Markle was able her lawyer to answer her questions. Some believe she was informed beforehand of what would be discussed in the documentary.
Christmas Show will Celebrate "Unsung Heroes"
The BBC will continue to have an influence on the production of the Christmas show. It's being developed by BBC Studios Events Productions but broadcast on ITV. Along with readings and musical performances by guests, the Westminster Abbey Choir will perform Christmas carols. It will air on the 8th of December.
Middleton posted a photo of the invitation that was sent to guests at the event on Instagram with the caption: "This Christmas, we are celebrating and recognizing the extraordinary work of individuals, organizations, and communities across the country who go above and beyond for their communities."
Her post said that the service will reflect on the past 18 months and not just the unprecedented challenges we all have faced in navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. "But we must also remember the positives, such as the people and organizations that have pulled together in their communities, small acts of kindness among different generations and demographics, and unsung heroes who helped others."
