Maci talks about her Al-Anon meetings, and how Bentley benefited from a therapist. Her husband Taylor then speaks of the "fine-line between trying to protect Bentley and getting in the way of his having a good relationship with his dad."

After years of battling with her ex-husband and the father to her child, Maci Bookout is finally on the same page as Ryan Edwards... even though he's in prison.

Taylor McKinney, the Teen Mum: The Next Chapter actress and her husband spoke to TooFab in order to find out where they are with Bentley's dad ahead of season two.

The two had not always been on the same page, but after Edwards' emotional breakout at the Teen Mom reunion, they were able to come to an understanding. Maci says that the communication between Edwards and Maci has continued, even though Edwards was sent to prison in April for harassment charges. This followed charges of possession of controlled substances, DUI, and violating his probation.

According to the Sun, he is set to be released and sent to rehab.

Bookout said, "I think the time helped... we were able to have a real conversation and commit to each other about what our roles are to create a better relationship. We really started a relationship because we hadn't been in one for so long."

She continued, "Obviously, after all that happened and with him in jail, we are still in a great place and speak to eachother very frequently and consistently." It's obvious that it's different because he isn't here in real life and we're not talking in person. We're still going in the right direction.

Taylor is not happy about Ryan's return to Bentley's world. The teen has a dinner alone with his father for the first in many years. He is hesitant out of a sense of protecting Bentley, as he doesn't want to see him hurt.

He said, "You'll be able to see the evolution of my feelings towards Ryan and coparenting." In my opinion, there is a fine balance between protecting and trying to be protective. Bentley, and not interfere with him having a good relationship with his dad, trying to find the balance is difficult.

Edwards' recent legal problems are not a first. As Maci noted, it's not the first time the family has been in a situation where they had to have less than ideal conversations with their son.

She said that Bentley is older, and this is not the first time something like this has happened. Bentley and I, however, have always maintained a close and open relationship.

Maci added, "For us, I think being straight forward and saying, 'Here is what's happening', and then making sure Bentley knows we're here for him if he has any questions, or needs to talk to someone about how to handle something, or just wants to know that we are there to support him, will do." Therapy for him is definitely helpful. "I would also say that letting him know that he can call, text or FaceTime his therapist whenever he wants to is a huge difference-maker."

Maci is also getting outside help by attending Al-Anon. This organization was created for friends and relatives of alcoholics to share and lean on each other's experiences.

Maci said, "That's an incredible game changer." It's nothing like what I thought it would be.

She said, "It is very healing. It's more about you than the addict." It's a very safe place to look in the mirror and work with yourself. It's a great way to improve your relationships.

Maci also said that her co-stars can be great for advice on coparenting. She told TooFab that "fresh perspectives can come from someone who isn't directly involved and can give you a new point of view." She added that the group's humor was also very helpful, saying, "Just talking s--- sometimes helps a great deal."
