"Maybe I oversold, but we needed to make a film, okay?!" "Maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?!" said the actress who plays the iconic doll in Greta Gerwig's film and is also a producer.
Barbie will dominate the box office, and it is predicted that the movie will bring in between $90 million and $125 million during its first weekend. But Margot Robbie has revealed that when she pitched the film she had much higher expectations.
In an interview with Collider the actress, who plays the iconic doll in Greta Gerwig and is also a producer, recalled the pitching of the comedy film to studios. She shared that she sold it as a million-dollar project and compared Jurassic Park.
Barbenheimer: Box Office Bomb vs Bombshell
"I believe my pitch at the green-lighting meeting was that studios have thrived when they are brave enough to pair up a big concept with a visionary filmmaker," Robbie said.
She continued, "I gave examples such as dinosaurs and Steven Spielberg. I also mentioned other things like this and that. "And I said, 'Now you have Barbie and Greta Gerwig. I'm sure I said it would make a million dollars. Maybe I oversold, but I had a film to make.
She also revealed that, while she was adamant about the film's greenlighting, she did not place much emphasis on her role as Barbie.
She told Collider that she didn't care who was to be our director. Greta had been her first choice. But if Greta declined, I didn't like our director feeling pressured to give me the role.
"So, I was really upfront and said 'I will not be offended at all.' Anyone would do. I'm all for whoever and whatever you choose to do. Robbie said, "I've got skin as a producer but not as an actor. So be free to make that choice. "She was like, Shut up. I want to write it for you. "You may feel pressured, but ...', and we danced for a bit. Then I finally accepted that she wanted me to play this role and she wrote the script. She also wrote Ryan Gosling in. Our names were all on the script: "Barbie -- Margot -- Ken -- Ryan Gosling."
Barbie is set to compete with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer at the box office on this weekend. The phenomenon has been dubbed "Barbenheimer" by the Internet.
But thousands of moviegoers have decided to see a double feature, despite the fact that they are not able to choose between two very different films.
Robbie might think that she "oversold" Barbiewhen claiming it would bring in billions. But we won't surprise if the movie brings in billions - and more.
Barbie & Oppenheimer is in theaters this Friday.
