Cannon thanked his fans on Wednesday's episode and explained why he still came to work. He also celebrated Alyssa's strength.
Nick Cannon, one day after revealing that Zen, his 5-month-old son, had died from a brain tumour this week, thanked his viewers and praised Alyssa Scott for being a "superhero".
"This energy is real. Cannon said, "Even in our lowest moments it's the people around us, it's their family that builds us up," as he stood to thunderous applause by his studio audience. "I'm here. People ask me how I am doing. I reply that I am vertical and standing. That's a good start.
"Many people keep asking me questions like, 'Man, why are you still at work?' My family members are the ones who ask me, "Man, why are you at work?" Let yourself be you! He continued before saying that the love he receives from the audience is what helps him through.
"This is therapy. He said, "This is therapeutic." Before filling in the viewers who missed yesterday's program on his son's death, he continued.
He said that yesterday was easier than today, because yesterday was laser-focused and even numb. "I knew that I had to do it. Today, I'm a little torn. I am a little confused. It's very hurtful."
He then spoke about how he turned to gospel music for healing and the power music has in general. He said that Rev. To help him, he has been listening to James Cleveland's "I Stood on the Banks of Jordan" on repeat.
"I'm grieving. There are so many reasons I feel guilty. He continued, "I never intended to exploit this, so I kept it secret for so long after I learned about Zen's diagnosis. In respect to his mother Alyssa, and all of our family members," he said. "Yesterday, there was an onslaught love and care. It's all new to me. It is a new issue for me. Thank you. We are grateful. All I can do is thank you. It's going to be okay. I don't like all the hugging and 'You okay?'. I'm fine! Everyone knows I'm not okay, but you guys make me feel better.
Cannon kept his energy up and joked that his pink suit made him feel better. He then thanked Kenan Thompson for his condolences at last night's People's Choice Awards hosted by Thompson. Cannon has been inundated with support messages over the past 24 hours, including those from Kenan.
"It's been an unexpected outpouring love. He said, "I didn't expect it all over the globe. I really can't say thank you enough." When I talk about guilt, I don't want to make it about myself. But I do say "thank you" from Alyssa Zen's mom and the rest our family. People are curious about her whereabouts. She is making it happen, you know. Five minutes at a.m. It's amazing to see the words and tweets she uses.
He shared a few messages from viewers of love and empowerment, before adding, "You don't know how strong your are until you decide to be strong." We are here. We are smiling through the pain."
He said that if the show wasn't there, he would "probably be in bed curled-up" -- and although he admits to having those moments, his viewers "give him a reason every day to get out of bed."
Cannon closed the first segment of the show with his "Pic of the Day", a regular segment that he chose to dedicate to Scott. Cannon showed Alyssa and her son a photo that he had taken just this Sunday. He said he wanted to take the time to "talk about how strong this woman is in this moment."
"I am sorry for many things. I know that if I have caused any weight loss or other problems, it will not be easy for me to fix them. This is a difficult time for both of us. He said, "I thank you for being that strength and being that rock."
"Love to Alyssa and her extended family and love to all mothers who have ever lost a child to special needs, as well as love to Alyssa." He concluded, "I watched her grow." "Mothers are superheroes in every aspect. I want to take this opportunity to say that she is doing well, but also to continue to pray and pray for the entire family. We're going to get through it."
Cannon shared on Tuesday that they noticed something was wrong when Zen was 2 months old. Doctors discovered fluid in Zen's brain. He had surgery after also being diagnosed with a tumor. He revealed that the tumor grew faster around Thanksgiving.
Cannon held his son last Sunday at the beach.
Zen, Cannon's youngest child, was born nine days after twins Zion (and Sillion) with Abby De La Rosa. Brittany Bell had two children, a daughter Powerful Queen and a son Golden. He also shared twins Monroe and Monroe with Mariah carey.
