Pauley, the actress, was a regular on the small screen for 15 years as NCIS’s feisty goth Abby Sciuto. She appeared on every episode of CBS' crime drama until her departure in 2018. The 53-year old New Orleans native announced her retirement just two years later. Where is Pauley Perrette? Why did she leave Hollywood? We have the answer.
Pauley Perrette is best known for playing Abby Sciuto on 'NCIS.
NCIS is currently in its 18th season. The show has been a huge success since it first aired on the airwaves in 2003. Pauley Perrette, along with Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly and Sean Murray, was an original cast member of NCIS. She appeared in the pilot episode and every subsequent episode for 15 seasons.
Perrette was the quirky and unique forensic scientist Abby Sciuto. Her style was alternative-goth but her personality was not dark or moody. Perrette spoke of Abby during a 2007 interview with BuddyTV. "All she said about her was that she is black, smart, and caffeinated... She doesn't know anyone thinks she looks strange." She believes she is beautiful and doesn't consider herself to be anything but happy.
Perrette spoke often about her love and respect for Abby Sciuto during her long tenure on the show. This is likely why she played her so much. In a 2011 interview, Perrette stated that she was the greatest Abby Sciuto fan in the world. "I don't think I invented her. She is my honor. She fascinates and intrigues me."
Pauley Perrette resigned from NCIS in 2018
Perrette's love and devotion to Abby Sciuto ended at a point when she could no longer keep the show going. According to reports, her departure was caused by a dispute with Mark Harmon, executive producer and co-star of the show, over a dog bite.
According to the story, Harmon continued to bring his dog to work even though the animal had bitten one of the crew members so badly that he needed stitches. Perrette confronted Harmon to discuss having Harmon's dog on the set. This was a frightening development for many crew and cast members. According to sources, the confrontation led to a permanent split in their relationship. They never again acted in the same scene together.
Perrette left the show in 2002 and she tweeted: "NO I'M NOT COMING BACK!" EVER! (Please, stop asking! Perrette wrote. Harmon and his attack on me are what I fear most. It has given me nightmares."
She said, "You think that I didn't expect blowback?" You got me wrong. This happened to my crew member, and we fought hard to prevent it from happening again! To protect my crew! Then I was attacked for saying no! "I lost my job."
The tweets caused quite a stir. CBS even released a statement about the incident saying that Pauley Perrette had a great run on N.C.I.S. We will all miss her. Pauley, a former employee of our company, contacted us over a year ago with concerns about her workplace. We were serious about the matter and worked together to resolve it. All of our shows are subject to safe working conditions.
Perrette didn't clarify her statements about Harmon but it is clear that something terrible happened on the NCISset. She tweeted in 2020 about how toxic the NCISset was. You might wonder why I quit. They are still there. They all are. HIM included.
Many believed Perrette meant Harmon. However, we don't know for certain. It seems like Perrette's last years on NCIS weren't harmonious.
She appeared in 'Broke' during 2020
Perrette was back on TV in April 2020 with a sitcom called Broke. The show starred Jaime Camil and Natasha Leggero as well as Izzy Diaz and Antonio Raul Corbo. It was about Perrette, a single mother who adopts her once-wealthy siblings and in-laws.
Although the show was not a huge success, only 13 episodes were shown and the show was cancelled after one season, Perrette said that making the sitcom was the best thing she did. This was especially after all the traumas she experienced on the NCIS sets. The actress wrote: "This show restored me faith in people in this industry. This cast and crew were the best people I have ever worked with. It was a blessing. You changed me. It made me whole. You are so blessed."
She Announced In October 2020 Her Official Retirement from Acting
Perrette decided to end her career as an actor after a positive experience on the set Broke. This was much to the dismay of many of her fans. In July last year, Perrette tweeted: "I'm HAPPILY Retired!" Finally! Woot! "All I wanted!"
She also mentioned that she originally intended to retire from NCIS after she left it, but she decided to accept the role on Broke. Although I did retire from NCIS, BROKE was an important and beautiful part of my life. I was proud to do my last dance. Everybody who knows me knew that I was going to be retiring shortly after. My work is something I am proud of. I love you guys! I'M FREE! (To be the simple, tiny human that I am!) )"
Perrette announced her retirement a few months later in a tweet about her excitement at changing her look.
She wrote, "Does ANYONE KNOW If there's a legal way to get a #tattoo or #piercing now in #LosAngeles?" After over four decades !!!), I'm finally here. I'm not under contract to any studio, record company, or modeling agency. I can do whatever I want! I WANT new tattoos & piercings!"
Perrette then joyfully reaffirmed her status as an actress. "I retired happily! This is exactly what I had been looking forward to! Now, my rules of life are: "If my #rescuedogs do not care, it's okay!" Now, I only answer God and animals/plants. WOOT!! !"
What is Pauley Perrette doing now?
Abby Sciuto, the former Abby Sciuto, clearly enjoys her retirement. She regularly checks in on her Twitter account to check in with her followers. She spends a lot of time with her rescue dogs, and recently showed off a cool tie-dye style.
