"Anyone can now create themselves at any age by using deep fake or AI technology. I could be struck by a car tomorrow, and that would be it. But my performances can continue for ever"
This sounds like the "Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece". But it's not the latest Tom Hanks book, but a sci fi film entirely generated by artificial intelligent.
The Oscar-winning actor appeared recently on "The Adam Buxton Podcast", where he envisioned an ageless version living on forever as a movie star.
Hanks speculated in the podcast episode released this weekend that he could "get together and pitch" a series seven movies in which he would star. He would then be 32 from now on until the end of time.
The "You've Got Mail' star added, "Anyone can now create themselves at any age using AI or deep-fake technology." "I could get hit by a car tomorrow, but my performances will continue."
There'll be no way to know that the work was done by AI, or deep-fake. It will have a lifelike quality.
"There is no doubt that people will be able [to tell the difference between AI and real] but will they care?" The actor of "Sleepless in Seattle", mused. There are people who won't give a damn, won't even make that distinction.
Hanks said, "This has been lingering for a long time," before referring to a 2004 animated film. "The Polar Express" was the first movie we made that contained a large amount of data from our own computer.
We saw it coming. We saw that this capability would be available to turn zeros and one inside a computer into a character and a face. "Now, this has grown a billionfold in the last few years and we can see it everywhere," said he.
I can tell you there are discussions taking place in all guilds, agencies and legal firms to determine the legal implications of me and my voice being our intellectual property.
Mr. Hanks has been on a promotional tour for his first novel "The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece", which is available everywhere books are sold.
