Sarah, his wife said that he wanted to be remembered for being a kind person. "I think the love that people we love and know have shown to strangers is proof of that."

The iconic singer Tony Bennett died last month, aged 96. His wife and son open up about the last days of his life, including the last song he sang.

While spoke with Today,, his son Danny, aged 69, and his wife Susan, aged 56, shared their feelings for the late musician. They reflected that he didn't "just light up the space, he loved it."

Danny said, "He said that until the day he passed away." "It is all about love."

Susan, who wed Tony in 2007, said: "We absolutely loved eachother and he was the love of my life."

Susan revealed that he had been singing for a few days. "We were getting Tony up for exercise, so it was very easy to latch onto the piano. I told Tony, "Why don't get up, you can sing." "Any excuse will do to get him up.

"So he sang 'Because of You'." She said that literally, it was his last song.

The song was the one that launched the crooner’s career in 1951.

Susan noted that "it bookends the career of his musician," she said. It was his first song and the last one he sang. But the music never left.

Danny shared the last words of his father to him.

Danny said, "His final words to me was, 'Thank You'." "I can't put it any better than that."

Susan's last words were, "I love you."

Sarah said, "He would still wake up and say that every morning." "He woke happy every morning, no matter what he did that day or night. He didn't even remember. That was his only blessing. He woke up every day happy, like, "Susan, I'm so glad you are here."

He didn't wish to be remembered as "the best" despite being a popular singer.

She said, "He wanted to be remembered for being a nice guy." "I think that all the love that people we love and know have shown to strangers is proof of that."
