Zachary Levi's Father Dies at 76 After Thyroid Cancer Battle: 'He Fought Valiantly'

Zachary Levi's Father Dies at 76 After Thyroid Cancer Battle: 'He Fought Valiantly'

"Knowing that he is no longer in his decaying body and now singing karaoke on heaven brings me such peace and joy.

After a long battle with thyroid cancer, Zachary Levi confirmed that his father Darrell Pugh had died. He was 76.

Levi posted to Instagram Sunday, "Many people have been asking for updates on my dad Darrell." "My pop died peacefully, surrounded by his family, even though he fought valiantly to the end.

Levi, 42, has been following the battle of his father on social media for several months.

"Watching someone slowly die from cancer is one of my worst experiences. The "Shazam” star added that knowing that he is no longer in his dying body and can sing karaoke in heaven brings me such peace and joy. Knowing that so many people were constantly sending him love, thoughts, and prayers makes me believe in humanity even more. It is clear that he appreciated and felt it all, just like our entire family."

Although Levi is grieving the loss of his father, Levi thanked his fans for their support. Pugh was affectionately called "Papa D" by his family.

"Thanks for all your kindness and support during this difficult time. He concluded, "Sending you all infinite love and light right back."

The "Chuck" alum revealed that his father's fight turned sour when it spread to his trachea.

"Sittin with my dad in his hospital room. Levi replied to a Twitter fan that he wasn't doing so well right now. "The thyroid cancer isn't going away, and is gradually overtaking his trachea."

He said that Doctor's might have a few tricks up their sleeves to give him more time, but Papa D was not too far away.

Levi was caught up in controversy on the internet when he tweeted a message asking "Do you agree with the statement that Pfizer poses a danger to the world?" He replied, "Hardcore agree."

It was seen by many on Twitter as anti-vax sentiment and quickly became a trending topic.

The "Tangled" star did not respond directly to the social media frenzy. However, he tweeted a link from a 2009 Department of Justice report ordering Pfizer pay $2.3 billion in settlements for fraudulent marketing of an inflammatory drug, Bextra and its misbranding.
